You might expect addresses like Victoria Ave at Unley Park, Ifould Drive in Burnside or Cygnet Court in Glenelg North to top the list of SA’s most searched for streets online, however surprising new data from realestate.com.au shows househunters have their eyes firmly fixed on the Adelaide Hills.

According to the site, eight of the ten most-viewed streets – based on searches over the past three years to August 1 – were located further out from the city. The most searched street within 30km of the city is Nation Ridge Road in Aldgate. Stirling’s Sturt Valley Road, Laurel Road and Howard Drive also made the list, as did fellow Hills streets Waverley Ridge Road in Crafers West, Aldgate’s Glades Lane, Belair’s James Road and Norton Summit Road in Norton Summit.
Williams Real Estate’s Dee-Anne Hunt said interest in Hills properties had increased dramatically over the past three years.
“I’ve seen interest climbing all the time, and people are ringing all the time and saying they want to move to the hills,” she said.
“People’s picture of what they want their life to look like is changing, and it’s all about lifestyle, community and that Hills atmosphere as well as more space.
“During COVID-19 we’ve seen this go from strength to strength – it’s really sped up the drive for people to move to the hills. In tough times or good times it will continue to grow up here.
“It has been very affordable and that is changing, but people still want this lifestyle.
“That diversity of properties on offer here and variation in price ranges also makes it popular, because there really is something for everyone.”
Adelaide’s proven performers of Victoria Avenue in Unley Park, Ifould Drive in Burnside and Cygnet Court in North Adelaide all featured in the bottom half of the top 20 list.
According to realestate.com.au economist Nerida Conisbee said the higher level of interest in these streets meant they often commanded a higher price.
“They might have a much better view, nicer houses or something else desirable that tends to lead to higher levels of interest,” Ms Conisbee said.
“Sometimes it might be that a super popular house in that street can lead to an incredible surge of activity.
“In some cases affordability can be a driving factor too.”
Ms Conisbee said the most searched rental streets were popular for different reasons.
“Renters are not aspirational, they are more practical – it’s not an investment, they are just looking,” she said.
“They are in suburbs that young people want to live in, because renters are generally younger.”
Carrick Hill Drive in Stirling was the state’s most popular metropolitan street.
Paul Moran is selling his late parents’ property at 30 Carrick Hill Drive and said most of the people that buy there stay for a long time.
“It’s a hidden gem but people are now realising what it offers,” he said.
Selling agent Sue Windebank of Harcourts Collective said people were starting to realise there were plenty of quality alternatives to Adelaide’s most famed streets.
“We’re very lucky to have some incredible streets here and I think people are starting to discover some of those that have until recently been hidden secrets,” she said.
