Former Aussie actor’s FNQ Rocky Point house for sale

Cairns real estate: 1397 Mossman-Daintree Road, Rocky Point

1397 Mossman-Daintree Road, Rocky Point is listed for sale with Raine & Horne.

DESIGNED through the eyes of a mid 20th century American-Australian actor and artist, this Far Northern home is full of timeless, classy and well-thought-out features.

Appearing in ’60s TV shows like Homicide and Hunter, Chuck Kehoe called 1397 Mossman-Daintree Rd, Rocky Point home after building his dream house on the beachfront 2298sq m block.

The 1971-built home was purchased by Port Douglas restaurateurs Amelia Hannaford and Jamie Smith in 1999 after some interesting features caught the couple’s attention.

“The whole house was just so cleverly designed,” Ms Hannaford said.

“Where we were previously (near Mossman) it would get dark and gloomy with the wet weather, but here you can watch all the weather come in, but not feel enclosed by it. There’s still so much light through the home even on a rainy day.

“But the thing that stood out was the pool. It was half in and half out of the house. It flowed right into the living room and you could be sitting with a wine in your living room, while being in the pool. The rules changed and we had to put a fence around it, and now we’ve filled it in.”

Owner of 1397 Mossman-Daintree Road, Rocky Point Amelia Hannaford said the house had been cleverly designed to capture every inch of natural light.

Ms Hannaford said after purchasing the land and before building, Kehoe and his wife would sit on the block every day to determine the best positions for the house to capture both the breezes and the views.

“You’re overlooking miles of secluded sandy beach with endless views across the glittering Coral Sea to Low Isles and the Great Barrier Reef,” she said.

She said it was the ultimate lifestyle home thanks to its sheer size.

“It’s absolutely brilliant for entertaining; we’ve had 80 -100 people in here for parties.

“We’ve even hosted friends’ weddings here. It’s great because you can shut off the whole bedroom wing and if there’s kids sleeping, they won’t hear any of the loud music.”

The master bedroom suite is another highlight, with massive built-in robes, a second room ideal for a private retreat or home office, and a marble and sandstone bathroom with dual showers and a view that would be hard to take your eyes off.

The bright and airy open-plan living area features never-ending ocean views from every angle, with an adjoining library and media room all combining to create a glamorous living space.

The new main kitchen features custom Tasmanian Oak cabinets with a 900mm oven, integrated fridge drawers, porcelain sinks, a large butler’s pantry and local Chillagoe marble benchtops.

“The layout of the house remains largely as it was; we have merely modernised and updated it while keeping the design true to the mid-century-modern ethos,” Ms Hannaford said.

“We feel so lucky to have lived in this house but now it is time to pass on this wonderful home to others and we’re off on a change to Tasmania.”

Only 20 minutes to the restaurants of Port Douglas, 10 minutes to the convenient shopping in Mossman, Rocky Point presents the lifestyle opportunity of a lifetime with 10km of beach at the doorstep to this home, a boat ramp around the corner, five minutes to a golf course and 15 minutes to the Daintree Ferry.
