THE most exciting, potential-packed commercial leasing opportunity in Hobart right now would have to be the FitzGerald’s Building in Collins Street.

This large site has been fully refurbished to present an A-grade, mixed use building in the heart of the CBD.

An opportunity exists for office, retail and medical tenants for the lease of the ground and first floors, which until recently housed the Harris Scarfe department store.

Historically, Collins Street was home to Tasmanian business FitzGerald’s wholesale business dating back to the mid 1880s.

Two bidders contested the auction of 158 Kilgour Street, Geelong on Saturday.

A GEELONG family got its wish of an inner city home with enough backyard space for the kids after a successful auction tilt on Saturday.

Two bidders went head-to-head for a three-bedroom character house at 158 Kilgour Street, Geelong.

McGrath, Geelong agent Egle Skridulis said the 561sq m property sold during post-auction negotiations for $885,000 after bidding stalled at $875,000.

Heritage features are on display throughout the house.

She said several other buyers interested in the property were unable to bid on the day due to delays in securing finance.

“A local family with kids bought it,” Ms Skridulis said.

“I think people love that area, they are very keen to stay in the same area.

“It’s definitely still a property that people can do things with. There are things they love about it and there are things about it they want to change but one of the advantages is the backyard.”

The backyard space was a big drawcard.

There’s an original stove in the kitchen.

Dinner party ready.

The house is packed with period details, including decorative cornices, timber floors and open fireplaces, which extend into the open-plan living zone at the rear.

This links to a large covered deck that overlooks the backyard.

“It’s a good block and a good backyard for kids, you still have that nice space,” Ms Skridulis said.

The house is a few doors down from Kilgour St Grocer and is close to the hospital precinct and Eastern Park.
